Now I like to keep the Feminine 1st blog fresh, I like to mix it up and have a bit of variety, so I’m going against the norm here by nominating Olympians two weeks running for the Fabulous Friday Female…but after the week that Jessica Ennis had it was an absolute no-brainer.
She has been dubbed the ‘humble heroine who can use [her] heptathlon gold medal to inspire [a] generation’.
Her journey to Olympic gold has not been an easy one. The whole of the UK felt her pain when she had to pull out of the Beijing Olympics due to having three stress fractures in her right foot, leading to a 12 month lay-off to recover from her injuries.
But Jessica had had her heart set on an Olympic gold since she was a youngster and nothing was going to stop her from achieving her goal.
She even had to change her take-off leg following the injury to her right foot, but her flexibility and dedication meant that this wasn’t going to hold her back.
Having been honoured as an MBE last year for her services to athletics it was at the London Olympics this week that she finally secured her Olympic gold medal….along with a British record.
Watching her claim her gold medal this week was an incredibly moving experience, and goes to show what hard work and dedication will do to move you in the direction of your dreams.
So please join me in celebrating Jessica today and acknowledging her incredible achievement which will inspire many for years to come.
I would also like to give a special shout out to the other incredible female Olympians who have competed in the London 2012 games…and to the following ladies who have also secured medals for Britain in addition to Jessica and our lovely ladies (Helen and Heather) from last week (complete at time of writing):
