Last week my whole family was struck down with a very nasty stomach virus. I ended up spending much of the week sat on the sofa with my Mum watching TV while we felt a little sorry for ourselves.
Now I don’t normally watch daytime TV…but at one point we flicked over to Loose Women…and I’m so glad we did.
Because the guest on show was the awesome Francesca Martinez.
Before last week I’d never heard of her before…but I loved her.
Her style, her message, her humour was just fabulous.
You see Francesca Martinez is a self-proclaimed ‘Wobbly Woman’. Where other people would describe her by a condition (cerebral palsy) she has reclaimed and renamed herself in a way that works for her….as Francesca puts it Wobbly is much cooler…and it’s much easier to say!
…and as she says, we’re all a little wobbly sometimes in our own ways.
As a writer, actress and Stand-Up (or as Francesca might say sit-down) comedian she is hugely entertaining…but her frank, honest and beautifully real reflections on life, and her approach to living it are inspirational.
Having also lost a lot of confidence through my time at an all girls school the impact that had on my own personal journey (if you’ve read my “About” page, you’ll know what I’m talking about)…I related so much to what she shared.
I could write a whole lot more about why I resonated so much with her…but I’d rather you get to enjoy the experience yourself, first hand. So here is the interview I saw with her that inspired me to name her as this week’s Fabulous Friday Female:
I love that she’s challenging the concepts of normality, labels and the pressures that women experience in life….something you know is very dear to my heart.
I would have loved to have made it to her show in London this week “What the *** is normal?” and hope to catch it later in the year, if you’d like to see her then pop along here to pick up your tickets.
…and if like me you’d like to support and sign the WOW petition that Francesca is championing agains the government cuts on disability, then you can find it here: https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/43154
So today I would like you to join me in honouring and celebrating Francesca, she may say that between sleep, Facebook and Twitter she only has about 30% of the day left…but she’s enjoying and doing more to inspire others with that 30% than a lot of people do with the other 70.
As you know, I would love to acknowledge, honour and celebrate the women and men who have inspired you as well. So if there is someone that you believe should feature as a Fabulous Friday Female (or Fellow!), then send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) with 3 simple details:
- Who is your Fabulous Friday Female / Fellow? (Her / his name and location in the world)
- Why is she / he a Fabulous Friday Female / Fellow to YOU? (How do you know her / him? What does she / he do? In what way is she / he inspiring?)
- A photo or link to a picture of her / him online (if there is a reason that you would prefer not to include a photo, just let me know)
So help me to share with all of our lovely ladies the real women and men who inspire YOU. …and remember, as always, to Stay Fabulous too!
